2022 State Finals Preview
Evaluating and Predicting How The OK Conference Teams Will Fare In The 2022 State Finals
At long last, the 2022 MHSAA State Finals are finally here! We couldn’t have asked for a better slate as five teams from the OK Conference have punched their tickets to Ford Field, which is the most since 2002. If you are in search of as much state finals content as I am, check out Goosepoop’s final’s preview. You won’t find another source that’s as knowledgeable about the analytic side of things as Goosepoop. Also, be sure to check out my appearance on this week’s Great Lakes State Football podcast. The GLSF crew does a great job of breaking down each of the state title games. You can check out the state finals preview video here:
Division 1: Saturday @ 1 pm
Caledonia (12-1) vs Belleville (13-0)
The Fighting Scots are the first team from the OK Conference to make the Division 1 State Finals since Rockford won it all in 2008. It’s been a severe drought for Division 1 teams on the west side, and it shows just how difficult it is to make it to the state finals. That being said, I don’t think Caledonia should feel satisfied with just making it to Ford Field. The Fighting Scots have the athletes, size, speed, and depth to take home the title.
Belleville comes into the state title game as the defending Division 1 champs, but also a program that is currently under the microscope having recently parted ways with head coach Jermaine Crowell following the MHSAA investigation that found the program violated fair play guidelines. Controversy aside, we should have a fantastic Division 1 Championship ahead of us featuring two high-powered offenses and a pair of defenses littered with playmaking athletes.
